We offer a range of removal procedures, outlined below, and will discuss with you which is the most appropriate method of mole removal at your initial consultation. Each procedure is relatively quick and painless, offering a stress-free solution to a problem that may have bothered you for years.
The technique used to remove a mole, skin tag or wart will depend on the depth of the lesion and the desired cosmetic outcome. Methods generally involve the administration of a small amount of local anaesthetic, and then depending on the size, nature, shape and location of the lesion, it can either be shaved off and cauterised, or surgically excised and the wound closed with stitches.
The procedure is relatively quick and painless, and can be done on the same day. Possible side-effects are rare, but immediate side-effects include mild pain when the local anaesthetic wears off (usually in two to three hours), redness, itching, infection, swelling or bruising long-term. The lesion treatmentmay come back and scarring may form, in which case we strongly recommend that all lesions are examined histologically. We will send off the sample to the laboratory on your behalf and you will then be invoiced separately by the lab for this cost. I have just undergone a surgical procedure. How should I now look after the wound so as to have the best scar possible?
It is imperative to keep the area clean at all times to avoid infections. Avoid excessive movement or strain in the area. When exposed to sunlight, scar tissue tends to take up pigment differently to normal skin. Therefore, it is important to keep the area covered, or if on the face to use sun protection at all times (minimum SPF 30), as otherwise the resulting scar may be more obvious as it may be paler or darker than the surrounding skin.
Very often, in the first 6 weeks following a procedure, it is normal for the scar to be slightly red and raised. Two weeks following the procedure or following removal of sutures (if used) it is recommended to massage the scar using Vitamin E cream, or Manuka honey. This will flatten the scar.
A scar takes up to 18 months to mature to its final appearance. During this time, care for the scar should be optimised.
